As a blonde, I do love a good old purple shampoo. After all, where would I
be without them? I’d probably be a brassy, ginger-y looking thing. When you
bleach your hair, and even if you’re lucky enough to be naturally blonde, it’s
essential to tone your hair using a good silver or purple shampoo. Over the
years, I’ve trialled and tested a fair old few, and the latest addition to my
collection is Lush’s offering; ‘Daddy-O’! As a complete sucker for anything by
Lush, I immediately grabbed this when I spotted it in my local Bristol store,
and couldn’t wait to get it home and put it to the test. Lush says: “Daddy-O
works to add volume and shine to your hair. It’s the lemon and organic lime
juice which allow the cuticles to lie flat and reflect more light, helping the
hair to shine. We've created an infusion from toothed wrack seaweed and organic
lemons, that cleanses and softens. Extra virgin coconut oil hydrates the hair,
whilst fine sea salt gets to work by to softening and giving body to your hair.
What makes this extra special is that it can revive your silver and blonde
tones. “
Personally, the best of the two items I picked up (a shampoo and a
conditioner bar), is the shampoo. It’s actually very very pink when you lather
it up, but it does a great job of toning the brassiness out of my hair. On top
of this, it literally smells like parma violets! It smells phenomenally good! I
only purchased a little bottle of this because Lush spoils after a certain
amount of time due to its natural ingredients, but it’s definitely something
I’d love to repurchase. In comparison to my other silver shampoos, Pro:Voke
Touch Of Silver and BLEACH London’s Silver Shampoo, I find that this one is a
lot gentler. I find it takes a little longer to tone, but my hair feels
undeniably soft, and not like I’ve whacked a load of chemicals on to it.
The conditioner bar was a bit of a let down for me. Maybe I didn’t get the
hang of it? Maybe I like to use loads and loads of conditioner and I couldn’t
quite get enough from the bar? I’m not entirely sure why this fell short for
me, but it was a little bit annoying rubbing this over and over to get a tiny
bit of product. In fairness, my hair was soft after using it, and I only used
it twice before it went out of date, so I’m probably not the best person to
give my verdict. However, I don’t think I’d repurchase the conditioner bar
simply because my hair is always quite dry and brittle, and needs slathering in
conditioner to help it feel soft and nourished. I still adore the shampoo
though (and so did Chris who stole it to shampoo his beard with (grrr)) and it’s
definitely on my repurchase list!
Have you tried Daddy-O by
Lush? What did you think of them?
Lots of love,
