I’d originally planned to write this blog post up a few weeks ago, but Kat Von D very selfishly decided to out herself as an anti-vaxxer the very same week. I was going to scrap the blog post, but I actually (as much as it pains me to say it) a d o r e Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick collection and I will definitely still be using her products. My KVD Beauty liquid lipstick collection is made up of three shades so far; Bow N Arrow, Sanctuary and Damned.
I buy my Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick from Debenhams. I’ve ordered a couple online, but managed to find an actual stand in-store on Oxford Street last year, so I could try them out and find a good colour in person. They are £17 and come in about a bazillion shades; nudes, reds, pinks and also some blues, greens, a grey and an amazing jet-black.
These are the lipsticks that actually helped me master over-drawing my lips. I struggled with my MAC lipsticks for months before switching to liquid lipsticks, and the opacity and smoothness of these ones really helped me work it out.
These lippies are actually what first drew me to KVD Beauty. I had only just discovered the magical wonders of liquid lipsticks and I was investing in finding the perfect one. I adore the packaging; the metallic silver roses over a matte black base features on many of her products, and I think it looks so pretty. The shade names are also quite cool and unusual. Instead of your usually tame Maybelline or Rimmel shade names, we’ve got Witches, Malice, and Exorcism. Oooh, spooky.

Bow N Arrow is definitely my most-worn, most-loved and most-desperately-needed-to-have-a-replacement-bought because I’ve nearly finished the tube. It’s a cooler toned nude and is just sooooo pretty and wearable. It goes with almost anything I could wear and looks great with any eye-makeup situation. I always get asked what lipstick I’m wearing if I wear this, and I love the fact that people notice what a pretty colour it is.
Sanctuary is the newest one in my collection. I mean, I say new, I bought it about a year ago now, but I do love it. It’s a muted, cool mauve tone, which actually looks quite dark on me once it is on. The swatches make it seem like a deeper nude, and it probably would be on other people, but my white-as-a-sheet complexion makes it look quite dark. Bow N Arrow is a far more accurate nude on me, and Sanctuary gets more wear for an evening out.
Damned is a dark, blood-red shade. I fell in love with it online, but never got a chance to test in in person before buying it. I love love LOVE the colour, but unfortunately I was let down by the formula of this one. It’s weird, because the others are so good. I’m not sure if it’s because of the colour, or maybe I just got a bad batch, but when applying this lipstick, it goes patchy and moves around on the lips and forms dark areas and thinner areas. It’s annoying as hell. I can sort-of make it look ok if I faff around with it for a few minutes, but it was a bit of a let-down.
At first, I absolutely HATED the length of the applicator. I felt like I was holding the thing about a foot away from my face in order to apply it, and like I had zero control over the doe-foot. I’m used to it now. Most liquid lipsticks that I’ve tried have a much shorter applicator, so I guess it just took some getting used to.
Despite the annoying formula problems with Damned, I’m definitely trying to decide which shade to go for next. Hawkwind is a stunning brown-nude, Lolita is the cult-fave pink-nude, and A Go Go which is a nearly-neon fluorescent orange are all on my radar.
Normally, a £17 lipstick would put me off. Like seriously, you only get 6.6ml of actual product with these. And they’re £17 a go. However, I feel like you really get what you pay for with these ones. I have tried many other liquid lipsticks in my quest to find my fave, and cheaper brands like Gerard Cosmetics, Sleek Makeup and Nyx Cosmetics simply do not measure up. From the packaging to the creamy formula, to the amazing shade range and the incredible staying-power (yes, even after a feast at Fire Guys), I really feel like a £17 price tag is fair.
On a side note, it can be very frustrating and confusing when you start to consider the politics of using certain makeup brands. I’ve steered clear of Lime Crime ever since their scandal, and never brought any more Gerard Cosmetic’s products since theirs. But, I really love Kat Von D Beauty, and although I probably should stop purchasing from her brand because of her recent statements about vaccinations, my level of attractiveness and the quality of my makeup products are simply more important to me.

Hey Jasmine ! I loved your post, although I did not really expect to, given the recent controversy on KvD. I, too, love her products but have chosen not to keep on purchasing from her brand, although it makes me a bit sad, to be honest. I really have troubles buying from brands, whose ethics I don’t really agree with ! However, I totally understand your point and decision to keep on purchasing from KvD :) ! You do you and you should not feel pressured to boycott a brand if you don’t 100% feel like it ! ;)
