SLENDERPLAN INSTANT MEAL REPLACEMENT SHAKES SUPERDRUG | REVIEW

And now for something a little different! For those of you who read my blog, you’ll probably have noticed that I’m on a bit of a weight-loss mission lately. I’m proud of myself for having lost around 5lbs so far. I’m on the never-ending quest for the summer body of 2k17, who else is with me?!

With this in mind, I’m constantly looking for new ways of spicing up the long, arduous, tedious, hellish journey to a slimmer bod. I’ve been cooking new recipes a whole lot, including experimenting with vegan dishes and food I’d never thought of eating before (seafood, I’m looking at you).

So while I was browsing Superdrug for a new tube of toothpaste – ooh, exciting – I stumbled upon the Superdrug weight loss products. Say whaaaaat? There are bars and shakes in the Slenderplan range, but these shakes caught my eye first. They come in Coffee, Caramel and Strawberry, but obv I chose Chocolate. Each shake is 203 calories and are intended to replace a meal. I make mine in my Protein World shaker with 250ml of skimmed milk.

Do I feel full after drinking this? Honestly? Nope.

So I’ve decided to use these after taking my Glucomannan Complex tablets which expand in your stomach to fill you up a bit more. Then I’m pretty much OK. But given I do feel hungry within about 2 hours after drinking these shakes, so I only ever replace breakfast with it. Never lunch or dinner because I’d be climbing the bloody walls!

These are cheap as chips, which I love. They’re £3.50 usually, but they’re often on offer for 2-3ish quid. They also contain 30% of your recommended vitamins and minerals for the day, which gives you a nice little boost. They taste lovely as well, which is the biggest thing for me. I COULD NOT drink something that tasted gross, and I genuinely look forward to the taste of this, which is great.

So if this is 203 calories, I’m left with approx. 1000 calories for the rest of the day. I’m having a bit of a love affair with salmon at the moment, and of course I’m still stuck on soups. So, of course, I’m still eating as much as I can and going for runs (whenever I can haul my lazy arse off the sofa).

Disclaimer: I’m not promoting the use of these, or encouraging others to use these to lose weight. I’m just reviewing them for people’s interest or research into the product, as there were not very many reviews online that I could find. Always check with your GP before starting a diet and remember that eating and exercise are the best things to change!

Lots of love,

DATE NIGHT | STEAK + COCKTAILS AT LOCALE BLACKHEATH

As a result of my ‘refreshed’ state last night, I’m feeling a little bit fragile today. But I really wanted to share my lovely evening out, so I’m braving the bright screen of my MacBook to edit these pictures and write a little review! Chris and I felt like we deserved a little treat, so we celebrated the end of our uni year with a dinner date. Our loans just came through, so we got a bit overexcited and spent more than we should (but it’s so rare that we can afford to go out for a meal so don’t be annoyed) and it was one of the loveliest evenings we’ve had.

We chose to go to Locale in Blackheath; it’s not very far from our flat and it’s a little bit swanky. It’s got a really gorgeous atmosphere with chandeliers all over the place and candles dotted about. We have visited Locale before for a family meal and were super impressed, so it was really nice to go back just the two of us.

We arrived and sat at the bar for a couple of cocktails each. I had the 5 Star Martini and Chris had a Cuban Embargo. I think I won, though, because my cocktail came with a SIDE OF PROSECCO. We had another round of cocktails and then sat at our table. We ended up choosing from the set menu, and then ordered a bottle of wine (ffs no wonder I’m on the brink of death today).

I had Vegetable Tempura to start, and Chris had Salt and Pepper Squid. I tried a bit, but squid ain’t my bag. My veggies were lovely, and I drowned them in soy sauce like any self-respecting tempura devourer should.

Then we both had the Steak Tagliata which came with a really good portion of chips. The sauce it was in was luuurvely, and I struggled to finish it all. We’ve been eating a mostly vegetarian diet for ages now, so being able to sink our teeth into a steak was such a treat.

After finishing up at Locale, we headed to a pub for even more wine (send help) and I honestly don’t remember what happened after that, but I’m sure it was fun. Now I’m going to go and take off last night’s makeup and cry into a cup of tea.

NEW IN | OGX ARGAN OIL

I used to put my hair through trauma on a daily basis; brushing, straightening, curling, backcombing, over-shampooing, blow-drying, ponytails, crimping, sleeping on it wet etc etc etc. And all of this while bleaching it to heck every couple of months. I’m guilty of my sins, I’ve been to hair-church and confessed, and had a hair-epiphany. So I’m trying to be good.
I barely ever blow-dry my hair now, I never straighten it. I still throw it up in a ponytail every now and again (a girl’s gotta nip to Tesco in her PJs sometimes), but on the whole, I’ve been a lot better.

Part of this is introducing a nourishing hair oil to my routine. I’ve never used a hair oil before. My (non-existent) logic told me that because my hair was already oily, why should I put oil onto it? But when a friend recommended I try this, I thought it’d be worth a shot to minimise breakage and increase shine.

It works a bloody treat. I’m not much of a hair-care blogger so I’m not 100% sure what else I could really say. I’m a serial hair-offender, but this oil makes my hair feel pretty lovely, and look really shiny. I don’t find my hair to be any greasier, which is a relief. I grabbed this in Superdrug while it was 1/3 off, but it’s usually £6.99, so it’ll hardly break the bank.

Now I’m off to gently brush my hair and wash it, and then drench it in this elixir of oily goodness!

Lots of love,
