NO MORE WINTER HAIR DAMAGE | MACADAMIA MOISTURE MASQUE

Does anyone else’s hair completely give up on them during the winter months? My over processed, bleached, split barnet gives me nothing but trouble when the temperature drops. I just can’t win. I’m usually so good with making sure I don’t use too much heat on my hair, and using proper shampoos and conditioners, but over the winter months, I need some serious reinforcements. My absolute favourite winter hair masque is the Macadamia Nourishing Moisture Masque that can be bought on looooads of beauty websites. It costs around £26, depending on where you get it from, but it’s seriously the best £26 you could spend if your hair needs some TLC over the colder season.

It contains Macadamia oil which is super duper rich in moisture, and it works to smooth the hair cuticles and adds such a lot of shine. Despite the god-awful condition of my hair, it’s amazing just how healthy it can look after a good seeing-to with this masque.

I usually only need to use this about once a week, but I do amp it up a little bit when I can feel my hair going a bit straw-like and gross. I leave it on for about 15 minutes and make myself a cup of tea, then rinse it all off. When rinsing, you can definitely feel how smooth and silky your hair feels already. After using this since mid-september, my hair is almost always feeling soft and smooth despite the fact I abuse it with bleach and dye and toners on a weekly basis still! If you need to give your locks a little kick up the bum over Christmas and the winter period, I’d definitely give this a go. It also makes a perfect gift for the beauty lovers in your life, and it’ll last you such a long time. My tub has lasted since summer, and is still half full!

Lots of love,

COCKTAILS AT FAR ROCKAWAY | SHOREDITCH

Check me out, blogging about things I’ve been doing and ACTUALLY leaving the house for once! I felt like my blog was getting a bit boring with all the constant beauty reviews, and thought that it might be fun to review places I’ve been and things I’ve done. Chris and I have been making an effort to have some down-time together, going on dates and stuff together. We get so wrapped up in university and work that we can find it hard to have quality time together, so we’re trying to be more conscious of date-nights. That’s where God’s greatest gift to mankind, Groupon, comes into play. I’m forever scrolling through their deals, and I found a fab one for 6 cocktails for something ridiculous like £22 at Far Rockaway in Shoreditch.

The Bar itself is surprisingly huuuge and very weirdly decorated. I say it was weird, but I was actually loving the mural of Hitler begging every horror movie villain ever for his life on the wall. We came, we saw, we drank. I chose an Old Fashioned to kick things off, and Chris went for the ever-so-masculine Appletini. He had the last laugh, though, as I sat there choking and spluttering my way through the whisky. Then it was onto a Cosmopolitan for me (my ultimate fave) and Chris went for a Long Island Ice Tea. Now, I’ve only tried a couple in the past, but they have always floored me. Chris’s was actually GOOD, and so we both decided that for the last round, we’d both get a lethal Long Island Iced Tea and disorientatedly stagger back to the tube station in the rain.

All in all, Groupon has delivered AGAIN. I’ll definitely be trying out new bars that I may not have even looked at in the past. Far Rockaway was super fun, cosy, with 90s R&B playing and reeeally friendly staff. Also, I do love a good cocktail!

Lots of love,

KILLING THE GIFT WRAP GAME | CHRISTMAS 2016

I could literally spend all day every day wrapping up presents. I mean, if my years at uni end up going down the toilet, I will be off to Lapland to join the elves and wrap presents forever. I’m always keen to make my pressies look incredibly insta-worthy, and I usually look for the best gift wrap for a good few weeks before settling on one. I like to choose two different papers, then a string/ribbony thing that matches both, and some vintage looking tags. This is what I’ve chosen this year!

The pink, shiny heart-print paper is from Primark, and set me back a whopping £1.50 for 5metres. I always adore Primark gift wrap because it’s always cheap, but always bang on what’s looking lovely on blogs currently. I’ve previously bought their Disney Princess gift wrap (because I refuse to grow up) and their stag print gift wrap for Christmas last year.

The brown paper is always a winner with me. I love the vintagey feel of it, and tying it up with string makes me feel like I’m straight outta Mary Poppins or something. I got mine from eBay, and if you just type in craft paper gift wrap on eBay, you’ll find loads of this, at around £5 a roll. The string is also from eBay, as are the tags (which aren’t pictured because of the joys of Royal Mail around Christmas time, they’re still in the ether somewhere), which were both between £2 to £3.

I hope all of you guys are having an amazing, fun, exciting, happy time with your families in the lead up to Christmas, and that you’re all relaxing and spending loads of time with your loved ones. My little sister has flown over from Australia for 3 weeks and I haven’t seen her for two years! This is why I’ve not been too active on my social media currently, as I’m trying to cram in as much quality time with her as possible (and get in her personal space and suck out her life force for the entire duration of her holiday). I hope all of you have the most wonderful time! I can’t wait to read all of your Christmas posts and watch your Crimbo videos!

Lots of love,

COLOUR FREEDOM METALLIC GLORY SILVER GREY | REVIEW AND DEMONSTRATION

Better late than never, I always say! Over a month ago, I dyed my hair grey. And maybe I’ve just been too wrapped up in my exciting new silver ‘do to be bothered to write this review, but I thought it was about time. I had loads of questions over on Instagram (@jazmcrae, hit me up) about it, so why not just answer them all in one handy blog post?

The Colour Freedom Metallic Glory Dye in Silver Grey is the colour I chose to sort out my hair. My roots were a delightful yellowy-orange shade after the hairdresser royally buggered it all up, so I needed something slightly darker than I’d have initially preferred to cover those roots. Silver Grey is the second palest shade they do (Silver Blonde being the palest, and Graphite Grey being one shade darker). I got my dye when it was on special, so it was around £5 per box, and I needed two for my medium/long hair! I’d recommend buying two anyway, just in case. It’s easy for dye to come out patchy for NO reason at all, and the last thing we want is for you to run out of dye mid-dye-sesh.

There’s not much on the interwebs at ALL about these dyes. I was only able to find a few images of the results, and I think there was one video. I also saw a particularly off-putting article on a news website about some girl using this dye and it turning her hair dark blue. Hmm. Nevertheless, we soldier on in the quest for granny hair.

As shown in my YouTube video, I basically read the instructions and did what I was told. I think the key thing to state here is that I started with white-blonde hair as a base with just tinged orangey roots. I want to stress that you won’t get a true silver result if there’s any warmth to your hair. If you’re blonde, you need to tone the warmth right out of your hair using a purple shampoo. You need to have clean, pale, white-blonde hair to begin with to get the shade advertised on the box.

I haven’t ever dyed my hair by myself at home (unless you count some wash-in wash-out pastel pinks or purples last summer) so as you can see from the video, I haven’t got a CLUE what I’m doing with my life. I can’t dye my own hair for love nor money. I’ve got no skill, no tactics, it’s basically going everywhere and I have no control over the situation. By some divine intervention, though, after about 35 mins, it washed out and looked even and fab. I left it on for longer just because I was so concerned about the dye covering my roots. It did!

When it first rinsed out, it did look quite dark and I was hoping from the beginning that it would fade out a bit. I expected it would, and over the past few weeks I’ve actually ended up with a beautiful pearly silvery grey, which is much lighter than what is shown at the end of that video. For more up to date pictures, you can always check my Instagram @jazmcrae! I answered a whole load of other questions in the video; so if you want more answers, give that a watch. If you do have any other questions, do let me know! I’ve had white blonde hair for a good few years now and I’m rather well versed in the ways of bleach blonde-ness, so do give me a shout if there’s anything else you’d like to know, and I’ll do my best!

Lots of love,

Jasmine x
