BLEACH LONDON SMOKY ROSÉ SUPER COOL COLOUR | REVIEW + DEMO

I get so excited when I stumble upon a new Holy Grail product! It doesn’t tend to happen so often now, because I feel like I’ve got my arsenal of amazing products that I’m happy with and will always continue to use. These are things like my Too Faced Better Than Sex Liquid Eyeliner, my NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick and my Original Source Raspberry and Vanilla Shower Gel - to name a few! I’ve got such a solid collection of stuff I just luuuurve that I rarely branch out and try many new things lately, so this is a particularly exciting blog post for me to be writing!

I recently won a One4All gift voucher from my work for being simply spectacular and amazing [I’m actually really proud and wasn’t expecting this] and I couldn’t wait to treat myself to a load of stuff from Boots. I wanted to stock up on a few things I’d nearly run out of - the top of my list of bits to buy are the Bleach London Super Cool Colour in Rosé, which I’ve been using on and off since 2014 to get my hair my much-loved pastel pink shade. At the time, Boots were having one of their sales, and Bleach London had 1/3 off their products, so ’twas perfect timing. And then! Tragedy! Shock! Gasp! All of the Rosé shades were sold out, but staring at me from the shelves were plenty of Bleach London Super Cool Colour in Smoky Rosé.

I’d been aware that Bleach London had released a ‘Smoky’ range, which includes a shampoo, a conditioner and this new Super Cool Colour, although I wasn’t quite sure when they were released. I had a quick Google, and while there’s a fair bit about the shampoo and conditioner, I quickly realised there’s very very very little online about the new Smoky Rosé colour, and so I didn’t really know whether I wanted to try it or not. I definitely like to know what to expect when I’m trying new products, but this one was a bit of a gamble. But based on the little chart on the back of the bottle, it looked like it could be a very pretty colour; very similar to my usual Rosé, just slightly more muted and ashy.

My first impressions were that it looked a LOT darker in the bottle than I’m used to. I was a little bit put off by this, and was pretty worried it’d somehow come out in some very vibrant magenta - NOT what I’m after! It also had quite a strong raspberry scent, which is also new. I’ve been using the Bleach London Super Cool Colour for years and none of them have ever had a scent like that. It was a surprise, but I don’t really mind it - as long as the colour works and comes out looking nice, I’m happy! It costs the same price as the rest of the shades in the range, and I think it’s pretty affordable at £6 for a 150ml bottle. One bottle usually coats my whole head, and I sometimes stretch it with a dollop of conditioner if I feel like I need to.

Having a look on the reviews on the Boots website, it’s only rated 2 stars, which I think is bloody tight. I still get comments on my really old hair-dyeing YouTube videos with people disappointed and annoyed that their hair didn’t turn a pastel shade when they’re putting it over the top of mid-to-dark blonde hair. I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face; DON’T USE THESE COLOURS UNLESS YOU HAVE WHITE-BLONDE HAIR - they won’t work, you’ll be left feeling vexed. The chart on the back literally shows the colour result based on a very light blonde hair, and if you try putting these over the top of anything much darker, it’ll end up more like a tinge [cute if that’s what you want, but if you’re going for pastel, I’m soz but you’ll have to invest in bleaching your hair up too].

I still had a bit of a pinkish tint on my hair from the last time I dyed it, but by the time I’d shampooed and dried it, it was pretty faded and I believe I got a pretty true result. I tend to go a little bit rogue when I dye my hair using these things; the instructions say to apply generously to towel-dried hair and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing out. I like to shampoo my hair, dry it until it’s completely dry, and then apply the colour. I feel like this definitely makes the colour more vibrant. Then I leave it for about an hour to an hour-and-a-half to allow it to really soak in and develop [this is prime Judge Judy and tea drinking time].

And I’m honestly so so so so soooo pleased with the result, and it’s made its way firmly onto my list of Holy Grail products! It’s such a pleasant surprise considering I was feeling a bit dubious about trying it - especially since there’s so few reviews or videos on the internet about it for me to go by. I’m really excited to use this again, I’m really glad I purchased the two bottles of it. I think the shade is that slightly more smoky [duh], slightly grungier and more cool-toned than my usual shade, but I seriously prefer this one. The Rosé can look a bit ‘neon’ when I first apply it, but I didn’t get that same fluorescent situation with the Smoky Rosé - and it’d definitely a look I’m more into. I’m just in love, I really really love it, and I hope that a few people find this blog post handy if they’re wanting to try this as well!

Lots of love,

Jasmine x

  1. The colour looks so lovely on you! I'm not someone who dyes their hair (other than a dip dye years ago!) but I loved reading this. :)
