KNIGHT AND WILSON PUREPLEX BOND RECONSTRUCTING SHAMPOO + CONDITIONER*

I was minding my own business, tweeting some tweets a few months ago when the lovely lot at Knight & Wilson heard my whinging. I’ve suffered some really really rrreeeaaalllyyy bad hair breakage lately; literally half of my hair has broken away around the crown after my last visit to the hairdressers for my usual bleach and toner. Heartbroken doesn’t even come close to describing how I’m feeling about it, and I’ve been reaching out for advice anywhere I can to try to help my hair a bit.

I’ve been having my hair bleached for over ten years. It’s always been a bit dry and very split on the ends [i’ve just done by best to keep it hydrated and as gently-treated as I can] so I was extremely shocked at the results of my last trip to the salon. I saw a different stylist, but it all seemed to be going as normal and I left pretty happy with my bleached roots and pinky-lavender toner. Then I noticed blisters on my scalp which were itchy and crusty. That had never happened before. When I took my next shower, I noticed the plughole was completely blocked with hair. When I went to apply my Argan oil, I realised it felt like half of my hair was missing. I took a proper look with a mirror, and realised that about 50%-60% of my hair, particularly around the crown of my head, had broken off. I was left with tufts of 2inch-long hair, and the only long hair that remains is in the back and underneath the sides. Something at the salon had obviously gone wrong. But I’m the kind of person who could literally have my whole finger hacked off in the nail shop and I’d still smile and say thanks to avoid the confrontation. But. I. Am. Devastated.

So, naturally, after having a tearful meltdown [first world problems first world problems first world problems] I took to the land of Twitter to figure out what, if anything, I could do to help my situation. The general consensus was no heat, no hairbands, no bleach, no rubbing with towels and lots and lots of moisture. These tips were all pretty much a given; I kind of had a good idea on most of that anyway. But then I also noticed a lot of tweets recommending I try Olaplex. If you haven’t heard of Olaplex you’ve almost certainly been living under a rock. It’s used in a lot of hair salons and you can also buy it to use at home. The only issue? It’s a minimum of £26 for a teeny tiny bottle of product.

That’s where Knight & Wilson came in! They’d spotted my tweet complaining of my breakage and not knowing what to do, and so they offered to send me a few products to try to help me out. I’ve worked with Knight & Wilson a couple of times in the past, so I was really excited to find out they might have something that could help. It seems like Knight & Wilson have tried to create a more affordable dupe of the famous Olaplex bond reconstructing treatment, and the lord only knows how much I love a dupe. I was sent the Knight & Wilson Pureplex Revolutionary Cream Bleach, the Knight and Wilson Pureplex Bond Reconstructing Shampoo and the Knight and Wilson Pureplex Bond Reconstructing Conditioner.
I’m not able to give a fair review on the Pureplex Cream Bleach because the last thing I’m going to do is put any more bleach on this hair! But I have nearly used up the shampoo and conditioner, and here’s what I think…

Knight and Wilson Pureplex Bond Reconstructing Shampoo 250ml
£7.99
★★☆☆☆
This shampoo smells really nice, and I do appreciate a decent-sized product. It features ‘Aminofix repair and protect bond reconstructing technology’ to help repair the damage caused by bleach, heat, colouring and chemical treatment. I had suuuuch high hopes, but I just didn’t feel like it really did a lot. I saw so many 5 reviews on the Boots and Superdrug website and really thought this could solve all my problems. Well…fine, hair-related problems, at least!

It does lather up nicely, has a gorgeous scent that’s quite unlike any other shampoo I’ve used in the past, so that’s a plus! But in terms of repairing damage? Smoothing? Shiny-fying? Elasticity? Mehhhhh…I just didn’t find myself noticing it, particularly. Which was quite a disappointment. After lathering it up and rinsing it, it doesn’t feel like a particularly ‘better’ shampoo; my hair feels just the same as when I rinse off any other shampoo.

Knight and Wilson Pureplex Bond Reconstructing Conditioner 250ml
£7.99
★★★☆☆
Of the two products, I definitely prefer the conditioner. Again, it smells lovely and features the Aminofix technology designed to reconstruct your damaged hair. It claims to ‘maintain stronger healthier hair’. The directions say you should apply this to towel-dried hair and leave for 1 minute before rinsing thoroughly. Of the two products, this one definitely feels like it’s doing bits. I’d leave this on for as long as physically possible once in the shower; I’d apply it and then wash my face, shave me fuzzy legs, brush my teeth and do my body wash, and then I’d rinse. And it genuinely does make my hair feel super silky when rinsing, which was really encouraging!

I feel like I can’t rate it much higher because I found myself using a really large dollop each time. I think this conditioner has only yielded about eight to nine showers’ worth of product. But I felt like I needed to used a large amount to coat the hair fully.
As well as this, after rinsing, applying my Argan oil and letting my hair air-dry, my hair just doesn’t look or feel much different than if I was using my regular-degular every day products. Which is a disappointment!

However, I will say that my review should maybe be taken with a pinch of salt. Having read up on the shampoo and conditioner, they both state to use them AFTER the PUREPLEX Revolutionary Hair Repair System in order to maintain its effects. This particular product wasn’t included in my lovely care-package from Knight & Wilson, and I wasn’t aware that the best results from the shampoo and conditioner are had by using them alongside this product, so maybe I haven’t had the best go at it.

Essentially, this shampoo and this conditioner alone will not fix your hair’s problems. I think you’d have a lot better luck using the full set of products from the Knight & Wilson Purpled range, which I wasn’t able to. I also think that maybe, due to the extent of my hair’s damage, it’s perhaps too late to do anything? Obviously, these products won’t make my broken hair miraculously re-sprout into long and luscious locks, but I think they did help to care for whatever hair is left on my head. In other words, there is no such thing as a miracle!
I’d take my review with a pinch of salt; my hair is literally falling out and I don’t even think the tears of Jesus himself could help me. I am so grateful to Knight & Wilson for sending me these products to try, and I’m so disappointed that I couldn’t achieve the results I was after. I think it’s time to accept I’m going to have to go for the chop!

Lots of love,
Jasmine x
